40 OZ. TO FREEDOM

Last night Sublime with Rome hit the Low Tide stage at BeachLife Fest 2023, and let me tell you, it was an experience not to be missed. Many bands from the 90’s are coming up on 30 years in the music business. To celebrate, some bands play their classic hit singles from the time and even their full records. My childhood self was in complete awe being able to see the album 40 Oz. to Freedom performed in its entirety by Sublime with Rome.

Sublime has had a long career, and that comes with many ups and downs. After the passing of Bradley Nowell, many people were shocked and didn’t know if there would ever be another Sublime, or another band that could even come close. Rome joined Sublime in 2009 playing the Smokeout Fest, they officially changed the band name to Sublime with Rome, went on tour in 2010, and released their debut album, “Yours Truly” in July of 2011. Sublime with Rome’s performance last night at BeachLife Fest 2023 was one to prove that even with lows, you can still hit the highs.

Rome’s positive vibes are truly infectious, and his gratitude towards Bradley and all the Sublime members is honorable. Rome talks about how he was a kid learning to play guitar to Sublime records and never in a million years would he have thought that he would be on stage performing with Sublime.

Earlier in the day Shwazy performed a killer set with his band and also featured Claire Wright and their new tune – Sunshine. On the main stage the popular band from the 90’s, Sugar Ray performed many of their hits before Gwen Stefani closed Saturday night. Right before Sublime with Rome came on, Iration threw down a jammin’ set of tunes getting the crowd in the perfect vibe. When the sun started to go down and Sublime with Rome hit the stage you could feel the energy in the crowd. It was electric!
